Jerusalem governor urges Arabs and Muslims to support holy city
The Governor of Jerusalem (Al-Quds)) called Monday on Arab and Muslim leaders to back the holy city in its struggle against the Israeli judaization attempts.
Jamil Othmane Nasser told the ongoing 7th Moroccan colloquy on local councils that the Israeli maneuvers aimed at erasing the identity of the city of Jerusalem reached "intolerable" levels.
He voiced hope to see the Moroccan colloquy call in its final statement for more efforts to preserve the holy sites of Jerusalem and guarantee the security of its inhabitants.
Othmane Nasser recalled that the city of Jerusalem is a pioneer in matters of decentralization, as the first municipal council of the city was elected in 1914.
This long history in matters of decentralization is the best motivation likely to encourage Palestinians continue with this form of local affairs management, he said.
Relatedly, the secretary general of the Palestinian interior ministry said the recommendations of the Moroccan local councils colloquy will serve as a source of inspiration for the Palestinian authority towards the establishment of decentralization structures.
"We will endeavor to ensure that the independent Palestinian state be founded on the bases of decentralization to struggle against all forms of corruption or mis-management," the official said.
The colloquy on local councils is attended by several foreign delegations.
