Baker: Clinton administration does not act objectively toward peace process
Former US Secretary of State James Baker has criticized the stances of the current US administration toward the Middle East peace process.
Baker stated that the administration of US President Bill Clinton does not act objectively because of its fears of raising the anger of one of the parties in the peace process, in reference to Israel. Baker, who was speaking at the annual conference for dealers at financial markets on Thursday in Abu Dhabi, added that only the US can play the role of the honest broker between the Arabs and the Israelis and reset the Middle East peace process into its right track, thanks to its special relations with Israel as well as due to its special position toward international issues.
Baker expressed satisfaction over the meeting to be held between US President Bill Clinton and Israeli Premier Netanyahu and Palestinian President Yasser Arafat. He viewed this meeting as a good step in the right direction, but he asserted that other measures are very important to maintain such a push forward.
