Israeli Prime Minister heads to the US to finalize agreement with Arafat

Originally published

Jordanian official sources in the Jordanian Royal Divan said today that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is visiting Jordan to hold talks with Jordanian Crown Prince Hassan before leaving for the U.S.A where Netanyahu will participate in a three-way summit with Presidents Yasser Arafat and Bill Clinton.

The Israeli ministerial council has authorized Netanyahu to negotiate without being restricted by any shackles, but the council demanded that he call on the Palestinian side to combat terrorism, deliver the killed, change the Palestinian national charter and halt attacks in the Palestinian mass media against Israel.

The sources said that there are probabilities that the trilateral summit tomorrow will reach an agreement as the Americans wish, to be signed on Monday.

Yesterday, Natenyahu excluded the possibility of signing an agreement with the Palestinian during the trilateral summit, after the killing of an Israeli and the severe injury of another west of Jerusalem yesterday.

However, the Jordanian news agency, Petra, quoted Netanyahu today as saying that he believes the talks in Washington can succeed, "Israel is prepared to do its part if the Palestinians do their part... especially in the field of security and other outstanding issues."

Meanwhile, Palestinian security sources said a violent explosion shook El-Zawia village near Nablus city in the West Bank, resulting in the death of a Palestinian boy and the injury of his mother. Israel said that the explosion took-place when the boy took a bomb and played with it.

A statement released by Natenyahu's bureau, emphasized that if the Palestinian side will not abide with all its security promises toward Israel, there is no agreement, and Israel will not sign any accords currently within the new daily attack accidents on Israeli citizens.

Meanwhile, Egyptian Foreign Minister Amr Moussa said that Egypt is actively pursuing the situation, adding that communications between Egypt, Palestine and the US are continuing.

He expressed his hope that this summit would result in an acceptable and balanced agreement between both parties.

Moussa also said he will meet with Arab members of the Israeli Knesset, who are to arrive in Cairo on Friday.
