Algerian political parties continue consultations on early presidential elections
The Algerian political parties are continuing their consultative meetings and reactions towards organizing early presidential elections in February, 1999.
Chairman of the Peaceful Society Movement Mahfouz Nehnah has stressed that early Presidential elections are a positive opportunity for Algeria, noting that continued consultations between politicians is evidence of that. In the final session of the parliamentary bloc meeting of his movement, Nehnah added that the state's establishments should be supported in order to ensure security and stability.
For his part, Chairman of the National Solidarity and Development Party, Taleb al-Sharif, was among others who called for the departure of the current government and the establishment of "a plenary national unity government," which comprises all political activists or a government composed of neutral prominent figures and capable people who can be assigned the task of preparing, organizing and monitoring the process of the next presidential elections.
Meanwhile the Algerian National Liberation Front party still demands guarantees of fair, free elections, correction of the errors and mistakes of the past and special monitoring for mobile election offices.
The al-Nahda movement called in the memorandum submitted to the presidency of Algeria for postponing the date of the presidential elections, inviting international observers, and making some amendments in Algerian election laws.
