Mubarak highlights common Egyptian, Syrian destiny

Originally published

President Hosni Mubarak of Egypt has asserted the unity of the common objective and destiny between the Syrian and Egyptian armed forces. They worked together in the same trench with integrated plans and within the framework of deep faith and confidence to ensure the unity of the two peoples and the Arab states.

In a speech he delivered on Monday in Cairo at the conclusion of the strategic symposium held by the Egyptian armed forces on the occasion of the October liberation war anniversary, President Mubarak reiterated his call for the establishment of just and comprehensive peace, in which Israel agrees to the land-for-peace formula and restores the occupied territories to their rightful owners according to UN Security Council resolutions.

President Mubarak explained that security and stability are not attainable without the restoration of rights to their rightful owners, foremost being all the Arab territories, adding that peace should be just, balanced and comprehensive.

He stressed that the spirit of the October War will always flow in the body of the Arab people and nation, "It would always give us the energy to withstand challenges."

Meanwhile, President Mubarak's advisor for political affairs Osama el-Baz has called upon Israel to make a full withdrawal from the occupied Syrian Golan Heights.

In a lecture at the same symposium on the October War, el-Baz stressed that just and comprehensive peace based on UN Security Council resolutions would achieve security and stability in the region, rather than a separate peace deal. He warned against Israeli manipulation of Middle East peace process principles.
