Egypt's production of sugar is 1,2 million tons
Statistics issued today for the Egyptian holding company of food industries said that Egypt's production of sugar is 1.2 million tons annually where the expectation that the production will reach to 1.25 million tons next year.
1.6 million tons of sugar are consumed annually. The statistic warned of the dumping problem due to the importing of quantities exceed 600 thousand tons annually, knowing that the gap between the local production and consumption is only 300 thousand tons. This implies that 300 thousand tons are entering the Egyptian market beyond what is needed.
The statistics said that Egypt cannot reduce the crop's price of sugar cane which is currently reaching 105 Egyptian pound per ton, then the statistics demanded from the government to find a decisive solution for the dumping problem and impose the necessary duties to put an end for this problem that threatens local production.
