AL protests proposed sale of US planes to Israel
The Arab League expressed its strong protest toward the U.S.A supplying Israel with the most modern fighters in the world.
The Arab League described the US sales to Israel -- including 30 F-15 fighters and 60 F-16 fighters valued at more than 5 billion -- as starting a new arms race in the Middle East.
The AL expressed great astonishment that the US would supply Israel with these fighters at this time when the peace process is in crisis. The Arab League also warned of the danger resulting from this new deal toward Arab national security.
The proposed US sale to Israel comprises fighters that can fly a distance of 5,000 km without having to refuel, which makes Arab targets accessible to Israeli arms.
The Arab League called on the US government to reexamine the proposal.
