Annan proposals: comprehensive revision of UN sanction

Originally published

A diplomatic source in Baghdad said that the UN secretary-general's proposals to settle the crisis between Iraq and UNSCOM call for a "full revision" of what had been achieved by Baghdad in all production of nuclear, chemical, and biological weapons and missiles since the beginning of UNSCOM's work in Iraq in 1991.

The diplomatic source added that the proposal is intended to convince Iraq to give up its decision to suspend cooperation with UNSCOM and the International Atomic Energy Agency, while the UN Security Council reviews the sanctions imposed on Baghdad.

The source added that the proposals were approved by China, France and Russia.

Iraqi Deputy Premier Tariq Aziz said that he will discuss these proposals with Annan during his visit to New York next Monday, at the head of a high-ranking delegation.

Meanwhile, the director general of the studies and planning department at the Iraqi Oil Ministry, Faleh al-Khayyat, said that his country's oil revenues in the course of the fourth phase of the oil-for-food agreement will decrease by 25% as a result of the recession in crude oil prices, MENA reported.
