El-Bashir calls on Carter to visit Sudan

Originally published

Sudanese President Omar El-Bashir headed an invitation to former US President Jimmy Carter to visit Khartoum to learn about the developments of the events after the US bombed a pharmaceutical factory outside the Sudanese capital.

Sudanese sources said that the invitation came after Carter's call for the formation of an investigative committee concerning the US strike against the medicine factory, which the US claims made a precursor chemical used in the manufacture of chemical weapons.

The sources noted Bashir's declaration of his country's readiness to receive a fact-finding committee to investigate the US attack inside Sudan.

The Organization of African Unity newly asked the U.N. yesterday to send an investigation mission to Sudan after the US shelling of the El-Shifaa factory of medicine in El-Khartoum.

President Carter had reportedly said that if the US was wrong when it struck the Sudanese factory, then the US should admit that it made a mistake.
