Egyptian - European committee to meet to settle potato export problem
A symposium on the export of Egyptian potato to Europe and on problems facing the export process and the suggested solutions was held yesterday at Egyptian Foreign Ministry headquarters, chaired by the Egyptian assistant foreign minister and head of the Egyptian - European participation unit at the Foreign Ministry, Gamal Bayoumi.
About 80 potato importers in Europe and EU members in Cairo participated in the symposium along with about 40 Egyptian potato exporters.
At the conclusion of the symposium, Bayoumi stated that the reason behind convening this symposium is that potatoes are considered the second most important Egyptian crop for export, after cotton. For this reason, he said, Egypt tries to give potato exports the importance they deserve and to deal with export problems.
He added that Egyptian businessmen are about to elevate the problem by boycotting European products due to the European boycott of Egyptian potatoes.
