Report: Jordan seeks to amend water agreement with Israel

Originally published

Well-informed sources told the Jordanian daily al-Majd that the Jordanian government is exerting intensive efforts to amend the Israeli-Jordanian agreement pertaining to the issue of waters supplied to Jordan.

The sources added that Israel refuses to make any amendment as such, saying that the government of Jordanian Prime Minister Fayez Tarawneh seeks to convince Israel to add the phrase "drinkable water" to the water agreement, while the Israeli side refuses to respond to the Jordanian request.

Israel demands that Jordan pay millions of Jordanian dinars for such consent, the paper added. The well-informed sources said Israel stressed that it is not ready to filter water so as to be ready to be used as drinkable water.
