Belgian legislators and ministers start visit to Morocco
A group of Belgian ministers and legislators, members of the Liberal Party (PRL), started Sunday a four-day visit to Morocco at the invitation of Moroccan centrist party the National Rally of Independents (RNI).
The trip's organizer, Moroccan-born Belgian legislator Mostapha Ouezkhiti, explained that "as part of the new policy in the Arab world, the PRL has decided to focus on Morocco, for several reason, namely the importance of the Moroccan-born community in Belgium, a community which can play a linking role between the two countries, the key part that Morocco can have in the economic stability of the Maghreb and the economic and geographic proximity with European countries."
Talking to MAP's bureau in Brussels on his role as a Moroccan-born regional representative, Ouezekhiti said it is the duty of each one to work for the rapprochement between peoples and cultures. He added that on this basis he is trying to explain, convince and struggle against discrimination and racism.
To a question on the goal of this mission, he said one of the goals is to improve the living conditions on each side of the Mediterranean. He explained that this requires much courage and patience to address problems and persevere to find the most appropriate solutions.
The delegation to be headed by Louis Michel, a minister of state and chairman of the PRL, will comprise about 20 persons, including seven journalists.
During its stay in Rabat, Casablanca and Marrakesh, the delegation will meet with several Moroccan ministers and officials of political parties represented in the parliament.
It will also hold work sessions with Moroccan entrepreneurs and visit some Moroccan enterprises and Belgian companies established in the kingdom, MAP reported.
