No peace initiatives expected from Netanyahu says AL official

Originally published

Ambassador Said Kamal, the Arab League's assistant secretary general for Palestinian affairs, stated that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will not present any initiative until the year 2000 to advance the stumbling peace process, adding that Netanyahu is primarily concerned with winning his post for the second time in the elections that will be held in two years.

Kamal emphasized the importance of the Palestinian and the Arab sides exerting more efforts to prevent Netanyahu from achieving his goals.

Kamal urged the Israeli opposition party and pro-peace forces inside Israel to play a stronger role in confronting Netanyahu's position, which threatens the peace process.
