Summit coming between Syrian, Lebanese presidents

Originally published

Syrian sources told ArabicNews.com that Syrian President Hafez al-Assad made a phone call to Lebanese P:resident Elias Hrawi, and that the two leaders agreed to meet soon. The sources said the appointment will be determined after the meetings between Assad and Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak, which will be held in days.

The sources said that Assad confirmed to the Lebanese president that his talks in France were successful, and they said that it is normal that the Syrian and Lebanese presidents convene to discuss developments in the peace process and the Lebanese situation, which was one focus of the talks between the Syrian president and French President Jacques Chirac, especially the Israeli proposal to implement Security Council resolution 425 with added conditions of security arrangements.

The sources referred that the "anticipated Lebanese - Syrian summit, may tackle determining the date of al-Assad's visit to Lebanon, especially since the Syrian president accepted the invitation directed to him by President Hrawi three years ago."
