Sudan denies holding any political detainees
Sudanese Minister of the Interior Abdul Rahim Muhammad Hussein denied the presence of any political detainees in Sudan. He noted that several persons have been tried.
The Sudanese daily al-Joumhouriyah said the Sudanese minister's statements were made in reply to reports that Sudan detained several opposition members and trade unionists two days ago. He added, the paper said, that measures will be taken to avoid political disorder.
On Thursday, the Sudanese Ministry of the Interior said that an explosive charge went off and caused a big fire in a fuel reservoir on Monday night, , whereas other explosive charges were dismantled targeting electricity grids and a car parked in front of the Conference Center, a movie theater, a university and a hospital in Khartoum.
In a statement, the ministry attributed these aggressions to "a group of terrorists who are linked to foreign circles."
The information minister accused the opposition National Democratic Assembly of being behind the explosives, but the NDA denied the charges in a statement issued yesterday and said that the government's accusations are without any tangible justification or evidence.
