The Sudanese authorities announced yesterday that they uncovered a plan aimed at spoiling the celebrations of the ninth anniversary of the National Salvation government's rise to power.

The authorities stated that three explosives were to be used within the plan, but they arrested the main participants in the plan and neutralized the explosives.

Within this regards, the Sudanese security authorities summoned the leaders of opposition parties on Tuesday and Wednesday to investigate them, yet no statements were issued about any involvement in the plan.

The Sudanese Ministry of Interior issued a statement yesterday evening, in which it confirmed that there was a group of terrorists and saboteurs (affiliated to known external parties providing financing) who planned to carry out vandalism using a number of explosives.

The ministry said it believed the aim of the plan was to abuse the atmosphere of freedom and legitimacy established by the constitution and to strike at vital services such as electrical lines as well as to weaken solidarity.
