Hamas leader calls for release of detainees in Israel

Originally published

The founder of the Islamic resistance movement, Hamas, Sheikh Ahmed Yassin urged Israel to release the Palestinian captives and detainees in its prisons and to end their suffering immediately.

On the ninth anniversary of his detention, Sheikh Yassin said, Israel has no right to continue detaining them, adding that continuing to detain them contradicts humanitarian and international conventions as well as with Israeli pledges before the Palestinian people to release them.

He added, The Israeli prisons are oppresive because they deprive prisoners from "seeing their families and relations."

Sheikh Yassin added, "Israel is mistaken if it thought that it would get away from Hamas' punishment, because power does not last for anyone."

Sheikh Yassin called on international humanitarian organizations to raise their voices to pressure Israel in order to win the release of the detainees and end to the use of torture against them.
