Arab League calls on Washington and Moscow to pressure Israel
The Arab League's council held an urgent meeting today among the AL's permanent deputies, headed by Esmat Abdul Meguid, the league's secretary-general, to devise an Arab position toward the Israeli plan to Judaize Jerusalem.
The council confirmed the necessity of continuing Arab coordination to confront the Israeli plans.
The deputies authorized the secretary-general to hold talks with concerned organizations, including the Organization of the Islamic Conference, the Non-Aligned Movement, the Group of 77 (a coalition of 77 developing countries at the UN) and the Organization of African Unity to work for a decision from the United Nations, recognizing any Israeli measure in Jerusalem as invalid.
The permanent deputies also accused the Israeli prime minister of taking measures to frustrate the peace process and said that all international and Arab attempts till now have failed, as the council demanded from U.S.A, Russia and the European Union to pressure Israel to implement the resolutions and agreements toward any actions affecting the future of Jerusalem.
