Palestinian government denies reports of proposal to release Rantisi

Originally published

An official source in the Palestinian government on Monday denied reports that the Palestinian government proposed releasing Dr. Abdul Aziz Rantisi, an official spokesman for the Islamic resistance movement, Hamas, on the condition that he does not make any public statements.

The sources said this news has nothing to do with truth and said Rantisi is still under investigation.

Rantisi was arrested by Palestinian authorities at the beginning of last month due to statements in press and T.V interviews in which he threatened that Hamas would take revenge against Israel for killing Muhyeddine al-Sharif, a Hamas military leader in Ramallah during last March, while officials in the Palestinian authority said that al-Sharif was killed by a Hamas member because of internal disputes.
