Germany supports efforts to solve Lockerbie problem

Helmut Schafer, the undersecretary of state at the German Foreign Ministry, confirmed today the importance of Libya's participation in discussions among the European Union and the countries of the Mediterranean Sea basin.

He also confirmed his country's support for the initiatives aimed at settling the Lockerbie case, expressing his hope of reaching a solution in this case.

Schafer held discussions in Tripoli with the assistant secretary general of the Libyan people's general conference concerning methods of supporting and developing relations between the two countries as well as establishing a German - Libyan friendship association and cooperation between the Libyan people's general conference, the Democratic Socialist Party and the Greens Party in Germany.
