Egypt expresses support for people of Sierra Leone

Originally published

A spokesman for the Egyptian Foreign Ministry said that Egypt has followed with concern the current developments in Sierra Leone, and expresses its approval of the return of the legitimate and democratically-elected president, Ahmed Tijan Kabba, to Sierra Leone.

Kabba had been deposed in May, 1997 and was living in exile in Guinea until his return to Sierra Leone.

The spokesman added that regarding the deterioration of conditions in Sierra Leone and the destruction that wracked its infrastructure, Egypt calls on the international community, governmental and non-governmental organizations to give a hand to the victims and to support the legitimate government. The ministry also confirmed that Egypt will participate in easing the suffering of the Sierra Leonean people.
