New Egyptian initiative for Sudanese reconciliation
An Egyptian official expressed Cairo's readiness to launch an initiative to arrange meetings between leaders of the Sudanese government and the opposition to address Sudanese reconciliation.
Sudanese opposition leader Sadiq El-Mahdi supported Egyptian efforts for communications made by Cairo within the Inter-Governmental Association on Development and with countries concerned with the Sudanese issue, but he warned that the Egyptian initiative must not contradict with the Nairobi talks.
Concerning the Sudanese government's policy in the south, El.Mahdi said the policy is stumbling, confirming that the Sudanese government in the region received a severe blow from the departure of Karbino Kwanin, head of Bahr El-Ghazal's government, and who joined SPLA leader John Garang.
