Syrian-Romanian joint higher committee meets on cooperation
Romanian President Emil Constantinescu on Monday met with Syrian Deputy Premier for Economic Affairs Salim Yassin and his accompanying economic delegation for talks on bilateral relations.
The Talks dealt with ongoing draft agreements in various fields, including trade, economics, tourism and transportation. The Romanian President stressed his country's interest in developing and diversifying relations between the two countries, especially cultural links.
Earlier in the day, the Syrian deputy premier discussed with Romanian Foreign Minister Andrei Plesu bilateral relations between the two countries, the latest developments in the deadlocked peace process, the situation in the Middle East and Eastern Europe as well as several issues of mutual concern.
The Romanian minister stressed Romania's stand in support of legitimate Arab rights and praised Syria's role in this regard.
Earlier, meetings of the Syrian-Romanian Joint Higher Committee started on Monday and the two sides reviewed fields of cooperation between Syria and Romania -- especially trade exchange, health, economic, technical and tourism cooperation -- and means of boosting and diversifying bilateral cooperation in political, economic, trade and scientific, health and transport fields, as well as between businessmen.
The two sides are to follow up the works of the joint committee on the level of sub-committees.
