Sudan refuses to open United Nations bureau for human rights

Originally published

A Sudanese newspaper said that Sudan refused a request from the United Nations to open a bureau for human rights in Sudan. The government said that such bureaus helped rebels in the past and that it is for political motives that have nothing to do with human rights.

The government said these organizations were purportedly established within the country to serve humanity, yet they were involved in supporting rebel leader John Garang, supplying his movement with equipment, transportation and supplies.
