Arab ministers of the interior end deliberations in Tunis
The council of the Arab Ministers of the Interior has approved several draft bills, among which is a formula on an Arab agreement project to combat terrorism which says that national struggle against foreign occupation is not a crime.
In Monday's closing session, the conferees affirmed the need to distinguish between terrorism as a criminal act and peoples' right to struggle by all means to liberate their occupied territories in line with the UN charter and international resolutions.
A statement approved by the ministers condemned acts of terrorism against the security and stability of Arab countries and urged efforts to combat these acts. The conferees approved holding a meeting between Arab Interior ministers council and Arab justice ministers in Cairo by the end of April 1998 to approve this agreement.
The conferees also approved drafts of the plan for information exchange, promoting awareness of crime, protecting juveniles, combating illegal use of drugs and exerting further coordination among Arab security organs.
