15 Moroccan sailors missing after ship sinks

Originally published

Official Moroccan sources in Rabat said that salvage operations are continuing for the fishing ship "Azkany" which sank off the Atlantic coast by the Saharan provinces on January 1. Those operations led to finding the wreck of the ship on which there had been 15 fishermen.

Sources added that the fishermen's clothes were found in the shipwreck, suggesting that all of the fishermen might be dead.

A statement issued by the Moroccan Ministry of Ocean Fisheries and Merchant Marine stated that the ship sent SOS messages which said the ship was flooding due to high waves. Planes were sent to search for the ship in cooperation with Spanish authorities, in addition to boats of the Moroccan Naval Forces and other fishing ships.

The statement said that a fact-finding commission was formed to discover the reason for the accident.
