Tunisia to host Arab ministers for combating terrorism
Tunisia will host the joint ministerial meetings of the Arab ministers of interior and justice to discuss the obstacles that hinder reaching an agreement on a final formula for the Arab Treaty for Combating Terrorism.
The Council of the Arab Ministers of Justice did not ratify this agreement during its meetings last month in Cairo. A source informed ArabicNews.com that this failure was caused by differences over some of the articles of the agreement.
Regarding the definition of terrorism, the source said that Algeria tried to make this definition wider so as to include the condemnation of whoever supports or finances terrorism in any way, whether by providing terrorists with shelter or through issuing press statements or leaflets that support terrorism
.
The source also confirmed that both Egypt and Syria feel that this agreement is mainly concerned with terrorism, as security bodies are not responsible for dealing with extremism which is the responsibility of cultural and educational institutions.
