Algeria mediates between Syria and the Palestinian Authority
Algerian President Liamine Zeroual informed Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat of the results of the contacts he made with the Syrian President Hafez Al Assad during his recent visit to Syria, which concentrated on the possibility that Arafat could visit Syria to contact the Palestinian factions and to study the development of the peace process together with the resolutions of the recent meeting of the Arab League Council.
The Palestinian leader arrived in Algeria yesterday to brief President Zeroual on the current situation of the peace process and the results of the settlement policies and also to know the Syrian response regarding the Algerian mediation aiming to help Arafat pay Syria an official visit.
Arafat also headed to Tunisia to meet President Zein Al Abedin Bin Ali and high-ranking Tunisian officials and briefed them on the latest development of the peace process and the situation in the Palestinian occupied and the self rule areas.
