Majlis speaker: Iran proves Muslim self-confidence

Originally published

Iran's Majlis speaker Gholam-Ali Haddad-Adel in a meeting with the Syrian Minister of Religious Endowments Muhammad Ziyad al-Ayubi in Tehran today said that President Mahmoud Ahmadin-Nejad's letter to his US counterpart George W. Bush manifests the Muslims self-consciousness and self-confidence.

According to a report released by Majlis Media Department, he urged Muslims to increase their consciousness and said that the president's letter concerns the same thing.

Haddad-Adel stressed that the enemies conspiracies have increased at the same rate as the vigilance of the world of Islam.

Analyzing developments of the world of Islam, he compared the condition of the world of Islam at the beginning of the 20th century and that of the present day and said, "Today the US is following the same objective which was pursued by the British at the beginning of the 20th century.

"However, the present world conditions are quite different from those days and the vigilance of Muslims make it impossible for the Americans to achieve their goals." He referred to the sacrilege on Islamic sanctities and publication of caricatures insulting Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) by the West as the most significant intrigues of Islam's foes over recent years.

Turning to Iran-Syria ties, in comparison to those of Arab and Islamic states, as exemplary, he said that the Founder of Islamic Revolution, the late Imam Khomeini, and the late Syrian president Hafez al-Assad, who laid the cornerstone of such close relations, should be commemorated and lauded.

He pointed to the exchange of high-ranking delegations among the two countries and their positive impact on mutual friendly relations and said, "Fortunately, parliamentary links between Iran and Syria have also been expanding." The speaker underlined that Majlis is prepared to strengthen and bolster bilateral relations.

For his part, Al-Ayubi expressed his satisfaction with the meeting in Majlis and said that ties between the two countries are sustainable and lasting.

The Syrian minister referred to Iran as a model for Arab and Muslim countries and hoped that other Islamic states will also take measures to establish solidarity among Muslims.
