Amr Moussa: Taking peaceful advantage of nuclear energy Iran's natural right
Arab League Secretary General Amr Moussa emphasized in Cairo yesterday Iran's natural right to have access to nuclear energy for peaceful purposes.
IRNA reported the AL chief made the comment in a meeting with Iran's Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Vice President Hojatoleslam Seyed Ahmad Moussavi, during which the two sides exchanged viewpoints on issues of mutual interest.
Amr Moussa said, "Nuclear issues related to Iran must be resolved in the course of negotiations amid a peaceful atmosphere free from all kinds of threats."
The Arab League Secretary General emphasized, "Iran's nuclear dossier has no other options, but continued negotiations." Criticizing the world powers' double standards on nuclear issue, he welcomed Iran's proposal for declaring the Middle East a nuclear- weapons-free-zone.
He described the current status of the region as "quite sensitive" and called on all involved parties in the Middle East to refrain from moves that create further tension and new crises under such conditions.
Moussa also said that Iran's transparent policy on its nuclear activities was quite a right decision. Elsewhere in his remarks, the AL Secretary General considered the current ties between Iran and the Arab World "strong and satisfactory" asking for further strengthening of such good ties.
He said, "Our shared enemies are after sowing the seeds of discord by propagating about the Arab-Ajam (non-Arab) and Shi'a-Sunni disputes, trying to create gaps within the Islamic World." The AL Secretary General reiterated, "Under such conditions the Muslim nations should wisely refrain from moving in those directions, and strengthen ties among themselves, instead."
Amr Moussa added, "Iran's ties with the Arab world are both historic and strategic, and they should be facilitated to secure the interests of the entire Islamic World."
The Iranian Vice President Moussavi, too, during the meeting informed Amr Moussa of the latest developments in Iran's nuclear dossier, as well as Iran's insistence in taking advantage of its natural right in taking peaceful advantage of the nuclear energy.
Hojatoleslam Moussavi added, "All member state of the NPT are entitled to this right and the West's efforts aimed at depriving us of this right are not only illogical, but also illegal."
He said, "Iran would continue its transparent policy regarding its nuclear activities and keep on cooperation with the international community, and particularly the IAEA on the issue."
