Egypt: Europe needs to demonstrate credibility on Iran nuclear issue
The Egyptian presidential spokesman Suleiman Awwad said "Egypt calls for sustaining dialogue with Iran on its nuclear program through diplomatic channels, indicating that Israel is the only state in the region that has nuclear facilities are not subject to inspection system."
The government noted Awwad saying that the credibility of the European moves towards the Iranian nuclear file needs to be demonstrated "by a parallel move towards Israel that secures universality of the nuclear Non Proliferation."
Worth noting that Iran's efforts are within the international treaty and are for civil nuclear energy development, while Israel is widely acknowledged as possessing non-civil nuclear development and weapons. Iran has opened access to international inspectors to its facilities, while Israel refuses to even join the Non Proliferation Treaty. Israel, as the only nuclear weapon possessing country in the Middle East, had frequently made direct and indirect threats against different countries in the region, such as when Knesset members threatened in 2001 to blow up Egypt's great water dam (al-Sid al-Ali) that is vital to Egypt. Israel, also, frequently makes direct and indirect threats against other regional countries such as Iran.
Awwad said "Egypt calls for internationalizing nuclear arms Non Proliferation Treaty which must be joined by all states including Israel, urging Iran to show more flexibility and transparency as the Middle East is in no need of nuclear armament race." Days ago, Iran's president said that Iran welcomes all the efforts and transpancy since Iran only seeks nuclear development for civil use as it has the right to within the Non Proliferation treaty.
