Lebanese president keen for best ties with Syria

Originally published

Lebanon's President, Emile Lahoud, said yesterday that Lebanon was keen on maintaining the best relations with neighboring Syria because it was for the best interests of both states and people.

Lahoud, while meeting visiting Arab League secretary general Amr Moussa, welcomed any bids by the Arab League to further improve relations with Syria. He underlined importance of dialogue between all the Lebanese people to counter all attempts to undermine the country.

Lahoud said Lebanon's cooperation with the international community was in the interest of the Lebanese only.

A statement by the presidential palace said Lahoud and Moussa discussed latest developments in Lebanon, in addition to regional and international issues.

Moussa, in a statement after the meeting, said the Arab world was troubled by the events in Lebanon. Moussa is scheduled to visit Damascus on Thursday.
