Call to the armed groups to drop arms in Iraq
The Iraqi vice president Adel Abdul Mahdi stressed that the Iraqi government is ready to facilitate the road for any armed group or side that wants to drop its weapons.
Abdul Mahdi said in a press conference that this does not mean a weakness in the government, noting that his government will come down strongly on what he called acts of violence and terrorism.
The Iraqi President Jalal al-Talibani said on Sunday in press statements on the sideline of the preliminary meeting of the Iraqi reconciliation conference in Cairo that he is ready to "contact the Iraqi resistance" if the officials ask him to do so."
