Mauritania arrests 'Polisario' cigarette-smugglers

The Mauritanian rural police arrested, over the weekend, three members of the "Polisario" movement involved in cigarette-smuggling, in the north of Mauritania.

The suspects were transporting these cigarettes onboard of two 4WD vehicles to Lahmada camps in Tindouf, south-western Algeria, a source told MAP-Nouakchott. The Mauritanian authorities have implemented very rigorous measures against all kinds of smuggling operations since the town of Lemgheity was attacked on June 4 by Algeria's Salafist Group for Call and Combat (GSPC).
