Damascus: al-Mamlouk succeeds al-Ikhtiar in presiding over general intelligence
Syrian President Bashar al-Assad appointed Lt. Gen. Ali al-Mamlouk as a director for the general intelligence in succession of the retired Lt. Gen. Hisham al-Ikhtiar who on Sunday assumed his mission in the new Syrian Baath Party regional leadership as a chairman for the national security office which theoretically supervises the work of various security departments in Syria.
Al-Mamlouk, a Damascene in his mid fifties, worked in the security field earlier. He occupied the post of the chairman of the investigation branch at the airforce intelligence department before he became the deputy director of airforce intelligence.
