Arab summit renew commitment to ME peace initiative
Arab leaders on Wednesday renewed commitment to the Arab peace initiative since it is the Arab project to achieve a just and comprehensive peace in the region, rejecting all practices and stances that contradict with this initiative and with the international legitimacy resolutions relevant to the peace process.
In a final statement at the end of the Arab summit, they underscored that the peace process "is inseparable and based on the international legitimacy and the UN relevant resolutions, particularly 242 and 338, the land-for-peace formula and Madrid terms of reference." They asserted that "no side has the right to modify the references of the peace process to evade its commitments or the agreements it signed." The leaders called on the Arab Peace Initiative Committee to work to activate the moving plan to issue a UN Security Council resolution on adopting the Arab peace initiative as a framework for the peaceful solution and to work to hold a joint meeting with the Quartet Committee to take the proper procedures to push the peace process forward.
They also asserted importance of activating the Arab peace initiative approved by the Beirut summit which called for Israeli complete withdrawal from all the occupied Arab lands, including the Syrian Golan to June 4th 1967 and the occupied Lebanese lands as well as the establishment of the Palestinian independent state with Jerusalem as its capital and solving the Palestinian refugees issue in line with the UN General Assembly resolution 194.
They called to guarantee refusal of all forms of Palestinian settling outside their territories in accordance with the international law and the land-for-peace principal and Madrid reference.
They called upon the international community to support this initiative and to implement it as well as they assigned the Arab ministerial committee to move to implement this initiative in consultation with the Quartet.
