Algeria denies Arab summit seeks to normalize relations with Israel

Originally published

Algeria's permanent representative to the Arab League, Abdul Qader Hajjar, denied what was quoted by the mass media to that the Arab summit his country will host next Tuesday and Wednesday will be dedicated for normalization with Israel. He said that the anyone who wants such normalization can do in his own country.

Hajjar, who presided over the preliminary meeting for the summit, said that no difference has emerged concerning the Arab peace initiative which was approved by the Arab summit in Beirut in 2002 to settle the conflict with Israel. He also added that differences took place over a document submitted by Jordan to this effect at the meeting which was held at the level of representatives.

The secretary general of the Arab League, Amr Moussa, stressed that there is no initiative in this regard, but the matter related to a Jordanian proposal to reformulate the inter-Arab peace initiative in a form of a summarized decision, rather than a plenary one.
