Morocco comes on top of countries that attracted investments in 2004 in the south Mediterranean and the Middle East with 120 projects, ahead of Algeria (59) and Turkey (53), reported on Friday the French daily "Les Echos."

Citing a report to be published next week during the 1st Euro-Mediterranean summit on investment, the paper notes that France is the first investor in the region.

Out of 400 projects carried out in the region in 2004, 108 were implemented by French companies, said "Les Echos."

According to the French daily, Vivendi Universal's investment in Maroc-Telecom is among the 10 most important projects in the region. The French company currently holds 51 percent of the Moroccan telecommunications' company capital.
