NGO calls on UN SG to lift blockade on population sequestered in Tindouf
The Boujdour-based Al Amal Association for Legality and Territorial Integrity has called on the United Nations Secretary General to act for lifting the blockade imposed on Moroccans sequestered in Tindouf, southern Algeria.
The association exhorted in a release the UN chief, the international community and international humanitarian organizations to work for lifting the blockade and for freeing the Moroccan prisoners in Tindouf, who are described by some international organizations as the longest-serving PoWs in the world.
The Moroccan PoWs are held by the Polisario, an Algeria-backed guerrilla movement that is claiming the separation of Morocco's southern provinces, known as the Sahara. The former Spanish colony was retrieved by Morocco in 1975.
The NGO also called on the international community to inquire about the inhumane living conditions of those Moroccans held against their will in Tindouf, investigate the fate of the missing in Lahmada camps and to sue the Polisario leaders who are responsible for these acts.
Al Amal Association also urged for international organizations support to the national and international civil society to rehabilitate victims of human rights violations committed by Polisario.
