Italy seeks to establish camps in Libya to bring back immigrants

The Italian minister of the interior, Joseibi Beizano, who met with the Libyan leader Muammar al-Qathafi in Tripoli on Sunday said that the Italian government had drawn a big plan to establish camps in Libya in order to prevent the arrival of illegal African immigrants to the Italian coasts and then from there to Europe.

The Italian daily Corriri De La Serra wrote that Beizano signed during his visit to Libya a program to train the Libyan forces, noting that the " police will send to Libya 150 policemen in all." He added that the program states a joint Libyan-Italian training for 30 days starting after October 11, the date when the European Union is officially expected to lift the embargo imposed on Libya.

Beizani said that "lifting trade embargo will permit Italy to sell al-Qathafi planes, boats, helicopters and vehicles designed to run in rangelands needed to fight the illegal flow of immigrants." He added " We have also to retaliate toughly to the operations of smuggling immigrants behind which organizations might hide Islamic terrorists."
