Syrian Grand Mufti denounces the events in al-Najaf

Grand Mufti of the Syrian Republic Sheikh Ahmad Keftaro has underlined that the ongoing events in Najaf are a flagrant violation of all international charters that ensure the peoples' right to live a peaceful life.

In a statement issued Friday, Keftaro said that the events in Najaf represent a dark image of the mottos of democracy, freedom and human rights raised by the developed countries, and a "wrong implementation of peace concept that evil powers in the world claimed to achieve."

He asserted religious rejection of those unjust practices in the Iraqi city, stressing the important role of the UN, the Arab League and the Islamic Conference Organization "to end occupation and state of injustice."
