Morocco ready to negotiate Sahara issue if its sovereignty is respected, PM

Originally published

Prime Minister Driss Jettou on Thursday said Morocco accepts to hold negotiations on the Sahara issue should they care for the Kingdom's sovereignty over these southern provinces.

"Morocco is ready to negotiate the Sahara problem if the Moroccan sovereignty is respected, including by accepting a large autonomy identical to what is done in the region," namely in Spain and in Germany, he said in an interview published Thursday by the French weekly "Le Point."

"We want to construct the Maghreb, reopen our border with Algeria, maintain good economic and trade relations with Algiers," insisted the Moroccan Premier in this interview.
