Sahara issue is obstacle to UMA process, Party leader

The leader of the Moroccan nationalist party " Istiqlal," Abbas EL Fassi, stressed on Tuesday that the artificial Sahara issue, opposing the Kingdom to Algeria's backed separatist movement "Polisario," is the major hindrance to the north African regional grouping, Arab Maghreb Union "UMA."

The leader of one of Morocco's oldest parties who is visiting Mauritania stressed that that the settlement of the problem is only possible within Moroccan sovereignty and that the final and lasting solution consists in a regionalization system that grants larges prerogatives to the (Sahara) region's inhabitants.
