Originally published

The Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia ( ESCWA ) in Beirut Mervat Tellawi Thursday said Israeli occupation of the Arab lands, the unstable situation in the Middle East and the situation in Iraq have negatively affected prosperity and development of peoples in the region.

In a press conference held in Beirut ahead of convening a regional conference entitled "Ten Years After Beijing, a Call for Peace" on July 8th, Tellawi said that peace will be the main title of the conference due to the suffering of the Arab woman under occupation.

"Peace is very important during this sensitive situation," Tellawi said adding that the conference will debate steps implemented, during the ten years which followed Beijing Conference, to promote the Arab woman.
