Syrian activists detained
The Syrian security authorities detained the Syrian lawyer Aktham Nueisah, a human rights activist after he had received a notification to be before the military security branch office in Lattakia.
A statement by the committees in charge of democratic freedoms and human rights in Syria called in the government to honor its obligations in the area of human rights and to immediately release Nueisah, holding the Syrian authorities responsible for his health condition because of illnesses he suffers especially in the heart.
In its statement, the committees deplores news on detaining Nueisah, an act in which it find a grave escalation of the right of the committees in defense of democratic freedoms and human rights in Syria and the rights to peaceful democratic national movement and the national interest.
For his part, chairman of the Syrian committee for human rights Anwar al-Bunni stressed that there is no justification for the detention of Nueisah. He also said that the authorities in Damascus often resort to this way ( detention) whenever they feel they are in a blocked road for the demands advocated by human rights activists.
On forthcoming measures expected to be taken by the Syrian authorities against Nueisah, al-Bunni expected in a statement, he will be brought before the state security court or a military court, the same as happened before with legal activists. He, simultaneously did not rule out that the authorities to detain Nueisah without trial.
Worthy mentioning that Nueisah was detained for political reasons for five years between 1991-1996 and was detained in March for a short time during a sit in before the parliament in Damascus while demanding the abrogation of the emergency law enforced since 1963 with the accession of the Baath Party to power.
