UN General Assembly approved resolutions on sovereignty of Golan resources

Originally published

The United Nations General Assembly on Tuesday approved a resolution that confirms the permanent Syrian Sovereignty on the natural resources in the occupied Golan, and the Palestinian sovereignty on their natural resources in the occupied territories, including Jerusalem.

The resolution, voted by 157 UN members, rejects acquiring land by force. It called for implementing the relevant resolution No. 497 of the year 1981, which specified the illegality of Israel's joining the occupied Golan, considering the Israeli resolution of joining Golan as null.

The resolution expresses the international community's concern over Israel's exploitation of the natural resources in the Arab occupied territories of 1967, and stresses the Syrian and Palestinian peoples' rights to their natural resources including land and water.
