Khaddam meets with Iraqi intellectuals delegation

Vice President Abdul-Halim Khaddam received in Damascus on Saturday a delegation of Iraqi artists, writers and intellectuals headed by Mohammed al-Shawaf.

Khaddam confirmed Syria's stand by the Iraqi people to overcome their ordeal and Iraq to reoccupy its position on the Arab and international levels.

The Vice President reviewed the historical stages which the Arab Nation passed through and the challenges faced it. He stressed the important role of the educated persons in enhancing the national unity among the different ranks of the Iraqi people and for facing the current ordeal resulting from the occupation.

For their part, members of the delegation presented an explanation about the Iraqi people's daily suffering and their future aspirations to build their independent state on the whole Iraqi lands.

The Iraqi delegation highly lauded Syria's national stances under the leadership of President Bashar al-Assad and her support to the Iraqi people to overcome their ordeal, form a constitution and to elect their representatives as soon as possible.
