King Abdullah criticizes Syria in Washington and demands it to control its borders with Iraq
The Jordanian King Abdullah, who is visiting the USA, got himself involved in the campaign of the American accusations against Syria where he demanded Syria to control its borders with Iraq "so as to be secure as we want."
He called on the Syrian President Bashar al-Assad to be "more cautious." The Jordanian King also took the same American position in rejecting making Iraqi elections at the meantime, considering that this will lead to a government dominant by Islamists.
In a statement to CNN, King Abdullah said that al-Assad should exert more efforts to establish peace on his country's borders with Iraq in order to avoid sneaking operations of anti- American fighters. Abdullah said that Iraq's borders with Jordan "are the most secure," and that Iran exerted efforts to this effect, but the borders with Syria are not security enough as all of us want as an international community."
The US President George W. Bush received King Abdullah on Thursday. The King stressed he had discussed this matter during the meeting. He said "I think he was told ( President al-Assad) strongly in recent months that he has to be more cautious."
