First Iraqi memorandum of arrest against Saddam
The Iraqi National Reconciliation Movement, headed by Eyad Allawi, who is also a member of the Interim Governing Council, announced that one of Baghdad's courts issued for the first time a memorandum of arrest against the former Iraqi President Saddam Hussein on assassination charges.
The movement explained that Allawi filed a case in front of al-Rasafah court in Baghdad on November 21st against Saddam Hussein, and accused him of trying to kill him when he was a refugee in London in 1978. The court issued a memorandum of arrest against him.
A statement by the movement said that "a man entered Allawi's house in London at midnight carrying an ax, and tried to kill him together with his wife. Allawi was admitted to a hospital and stayed in it under medical treatment for one year." The movement did not say when the memorandum of arrest was issued, but added that "Saddam Hussein is considered the master mind of the operation, with the support of his half brother Barazan al-Takreiti, the former Iraqi intelligence official, and Farouk Hijazi, operations coordinator in this department."
