Former Polisario minister denounces humanitarian aid embezzlement

Originally published

Former health minister at the puppet Sahrawi republic, Abdallah Ghailani, who has recently come back to Morocco, denounced the embezzlement of humanitarian aid sent to the populations sequestered in Tindouf camps, stronghold of the Polisario in southwestern Algeria.

The former official at the SADR (puppet republic self-proclaimed by the Polisario) called for bringing the separatist movement officials before justice for crimes against humanity. He also told "Assahra Al-Maghribya" that daily aid sent by well-meaning international organizations are used by the Polisario mercenaries to amass wealth, adding that the city of Tindouf has become, thanks to money raised from selling the humanitarian shipments, one of Algeria's largest cities.

He also stressed the need for all humanitarian organizations to follow up the issue and "close the doors before the mercenaries."

Elaborating on this, Sidati Ghalaoui, another member of the Polisario leadership who used to represent the separatists in Italy and the Vatican, and who also chose to rally Morocco, explained that the Polisario magnifies the number of the camps' populations by reporting a figure of 64,000 persons while the actual number hardly exceeds 40,000.

In some cases, he recounts, the mercenaries distribute the aid to the population in the presence of the media before taking it back again and selling it in northern Mauritania and other neighboring countries.
